A Little About Me
I took my first computer class
at Bellaire High School in Houston, and I have loved computers and
technology every since! I began teaching in 1997, so you can probably
guess that I did not start out as a teacher. I attended Southern
Methodist University in Dallas and received a BBA in Accounting. I
worked in Houston for a year for Exxon Production Research Company (as an
Accountant) until I got married and moved to Lake Jackson. I had a
family and did volunteer work from 1980 until 1990.
My family moved to Germany for 3 years, returning in 1993.
During that time, I began to substitute in the schools, and teach American
preschool
children in my home, including my youngest daughter. When I returned to the U.S.,
I began to substitute in Brazosport ISD, and volunteered in the schools and
community. My husband is a process control engineer, and I have
3 daughters. They are either in college or now have professional
careers.
I was hired by BISD in 1997 (under Emergency certification) to teach
Business classes, and completed my certification in 2000, including 48 hours
of University of Houston coursework, primarily technology classes.
While finishing my certification, I proposed Web Mastering as a new course
to be taught in BISD. I have written all of the curriculum for this
course, and I also have co-written curriculum for Multimedia.

I have been Department Chair for
Business & Technology Applications since 2000. When the district
began hosting school web sites, I jumped in as webmaster for Brazoswood High
School. The web site can be found at
www.brazosportisd.net/bwood.
I began to be a Tech Rep about the same time and have helped teachers and
staff with computer hardware and software issues, as well as issues with
other technology equipment.
I
enjoy working with students and teachers to help them make progress in their
technology journey. Technology classes are not just a course to learn,
but skills for life. Technology constantly is changing so both
students and teachers need to be exposed to more and more training, to keep
up
with all of the new tools out there to help productivity and instruction.
As technology becomes a part of all learning, students will take a more
active roll in their instruction. I hope to inspire all teachers and
students to embrace technology, and not be afraid of it. As teachers
must continue to learn in order to be the best teachers they can be, so must all
students and teachers continue to learn new technology skills.
