Resolution:

RGB vs. CMYK:

RGB is best for monitor display

On color palette, click > and choose RGB slider and RGB spectrum

CMYK is best for printing in color

On color palette, click > and choose CMYK for sliders and spectrum

Hiding Palettes:  To hide or open all palettes and toolbox, press Tab.  Shift+Tab will hide or open palettes only.

Locked layers:  To unlock the background layer, double-click it and rename.  It is no longer locked.

Icons on Layers palette:  You will find a new layer icon, as well as the trash and other icons.

"Normal" in Layers Palette gives blending modes.

"f" icon in Layers Palette gives blending options.

Styles Palette:  Did you know that if you clicked on the > on the right that you could load additional styles?  If asked to append or replace, always choose append.

Canvas size:  This may be adjusted larger under the Image menu.  If you want to add onto all sides, choose the center box.  If you want to add onto the right and bottom, choose the top-left box.  The new part of the canvas will be the color of your background color.

Shortcut Keys:

Ctrl+Click on a layer in Layers Palette selects the object
 

Defining a Pattern:  Make a selection, and then choose Edit, Define Pattern.  Name it, create new file and Edit, Fill.  Choose the pattern.

Defining a Brush:  Create a logo.  Edit, Define Brush.  You can then paint with this original brush.
