Brazosport College has received accreditation approval from the Southern

Association of Colleges and Schools as a baccalaureate level

institution in December 2004 and began classes in its Bachelor of Applied

Technology (B.A.T.) degree program in Fall 2005.

The approval for a community college to offer a baccalaureate degree is

history making. Strong industry support and input were crucial in making

this specialized degree possible. Local State Representative Dennis

Bonnen authored the groundbreaking legislation for this initiative,

while Senator Kyle Janek led the efforts in the Senate.

Brazosport College President Millicent Valek sees this program as an

incredible advantage for students, industry, and the entire Brazosport

area. “This program provides students and employers with unprecedented

opportunity. The introduction of this management degree will provide

essential work force skills to strengthen the local economy and increase

individual career advancement.”

Admission to the Bachelor of Applied Technology program is competitive. In the 2005-2006 academic year the bachelor’s degree offering received students from the college’s nationally recognized Chemical Process Technology program.  Beginning in the 2006-2007 academic year, the B.A.T. program has four specialty areas: Process Operations Management; Safety, Health, and Environmental Management; Business Management; and General Technology Management.

Dr. Dorothy Brandt is the faculty coordinator of the program.  She will be joined by two new full-time faculty in August 2006: Dr. Donald Wicker, and Dr. David Mitchell.

Dr. Brandt can be contacted for further information or application materials for the Bachelor of Applied Technology Degree program at (979) 230-3615 or Dorothy.Brandt@Brazosport.edu.
